PRODUCTION ENGINEER

 

Reporting to the Chief Engineer the individual will work closely with the production department to document and develop existing manufacturing techniques whilst ensuring product compliance is maintained. Supporting the production department with technical queries and issues will be a key part to this role, as will championing continuous improvement activities. Tasks will range from the definition of production processes, through work instructions, to problem solving equipment failures and yield issues.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the design and implementation of new production methods and equipment, all the way from concept to the training of technicians. The individual will participate in internal design reviews to feedback experience from production and highlight DFM opportunities with the aim of reducing project costs early in the design process. This will lead onto the electrical and mechanical design/build of project specific tooling. This will likely include the use of motors (stepper, AC synchronous etc), pulleys, extrusions, 3D printed items etc.

We want someone with:

  • A hands-on attitude to problem solving.
  • The ability to learn quickly and then lead by example.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work with the minimum of supervision and within a team.
  • Experience in the training of technicians.
  • A background in the manufacture of precision electro-mechanical equipment – desirable.
  • An interest in 3D printing – desirable.
  • Experience in the use of epoxies – desirable.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards – desirable.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum HND in engineering / technical discipline.
  • Experienced in the reading of engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • A background in Process Improvement.
  • A good working knowledge of ISO9001.
  • Knowledge and experience of 5S and LEAN manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in the use of CAD software (ideally Inventor).
