Ship-Borne Winches

Winches on military ships have unusual environmental conditions that their designs have to accommodate. The ship generates low frequency vibrations and depending, on weather conditions, the ship will pitch and roll constantly to a greater or lesser extent. The winch will be subject to rain and drenching by salt water and salt spray. This puts great demands on the protection of the slip ring in order to keep overhaul and refurbishment needs within the bounds of naval practicalities.
